What to do when a Death occurs

There are many issues for you to consider when a death occurs. A Funeral Director's experience and assistance will take a lot of the burden from you at a time when you don't feel like attending to funeral arrangement details that must be taken care of.

A Death from Natural Causes

At Home

If the death occurs at home, the first phone call should be to your family Doctor. He/she will certify the death and issue necessary certificates. After the Doctor has certified the death, contact a Funeral Director to arrange the transfer of the deceased to their facilities and to carry out the funeral arrangements.

Nursing Home or Hospital

If the death occurs at a Nursing Home or Hospital, the staff at the facility will contact a Doctor to certify the death and issue necessary certificates. A member of the family only needs to contact a Funeral Director to take care of funeral arrangements.

A Death from Non-Natural Causes

All deaths as a result of an accident or foul play must be reported to the police who will then refer the matter to the Coroner. If the death is reported to a Coroner, contact a Funeral Director who will liaise with the Coroner's Department on your behalf.
